Smart Roadster Manual-Steering-mod for pure driver-feedback

The smart Roadster steering feel (or lack of) has been a complaint of many people for a very long time, this is the FREE modification to delete the power assist (and the Dull lethargic feel) with only basic tools and 10-15 minutes effort total.

Pure driving confidence requires accurate vehicle feedback and this simple mod allows the tire and suspension geometry to communicate through the steering wheel just like on any "proper sports car" (a Lotus or for example) Because the smart Roadster is so lightweight its power steering servo motor system imparts significant delay and inertia into the movement of the steering rack and wheel and also dulls the road feedback and contact patch adhesion communication. (the weighting or tire load and grip)

Deleting the intermediate "worm drive" shaft from the equation immediately removes this delay and inertia, restoring Pure Manual steering accuracy.

Stationary steering effort is slightly more but its minor. As always with any modification this is only advised for people with mechanical aptitudes and some basic tools plus an understanding that this is entirely at your own risk. (Warning: do not remove the sensor plug connection as the ESP computer requires it) Only disconnect the two wire (Power) plug to the steering motor after the worm shaft has been withdrawn and dust cap replaced.

Once you try this you will wonder how you ever put up with the original steering for all those years.
