General Electric's 44 ton model was targeted at Class 1 railroads with a view to reducing crew size on branchlines and small switching operations. Many were either purchased new or found their way onto various shortline railroads and tourist operations. Herewith, a compendium of "Tonners" operating in both freight and passenger service, rounded out by the inclusion of a much larger 132 ton GE Cooper-Bessemer powered streamlined unit on the Wellsville, Addison & Galeton, originally built for Ford Motor Co.
