Interview with Kelly Jones (Synapse Software) + New Drelbs Terminal Game
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Drelbs, I made a text-only version for terminals. The game requires a SWTPC 6809 computer with 40K of RAM and a standard 80x24 display terminal with cursor addressing facilities like the TeleVideo 950, ADM/3a, and SOROC 120.
However, that only accounts for the first 2 minutes of this video. The most exciting part is my interview with the original creator, Kelly Jones, who was the VP of the Entertainment division of Synapse Software in the early 1980s. He shares some awesome inside stories.
The link to the game is http://tanrunomad.com/swtpc-flex-games/.
15:42: How Drelbs was originally conceived and the design strategy.
26:24: How Synapse ended up getting the rights to Zaxxon for computers.
30:40: His involvement with other Synapse games.
40:21: Atari forced Synapse to close.
47:40: He developed a revolutionary new gaming style for CDi with still backdrops.
59:30: He used the unreal engine to make Nerf Arena Blast.
