Antique Construction Equipment Playing in the Dirt at Gerhart Machinery Co. - Lititz, PA 10/6/18

This weekend, I attended the Antique Truck Club of America (ATCA) Mack Days truck show at Gerhart Machinery Company in Lititz, PA. In the back of the showgrounds, a few club members brought out their old construction equipment for a demonstration in the "sandbox" area.

Shown in the video are a 1955 Northwest 80D crane with a cable shovel, a 1965 Bucyrus-Erie 22B crane with a dragline, a 1960's Euclid R20 offroad haul truck (originally powered by a 6-71 Detroit Diesel, repowered with a 280 HP Cummins NTC-855), a 1960's Mack B-422 gas dump truck, and a Caterpillar 977 track loader. I also included a couple pictures of some other machines that were parked in the yard.

Many of these machines were retired from construction sites and coal mines in Pennsylvania and are being preserved by the Gerhart Company, rather than scrapped. There aren't very many people out there these days who still know how to operate this kind of equipment, so it was great to be able to see the old iron getting put to work at the show. These machines are a dying breed for sure.
