Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra by Lauren Bernofsky
I. Allegro
II. Cantilena 11:22
III. Allegro Leggiero 16:04

Piano, Pamela Reimer

Program Notes:
Lauren Bernofsky, born in 1967, has written a wide variety of works including solo, chamber, and choral music as well as larger-scale works for orchestra, film, musical, opera, and ballet. Inspired by the expressive potential of each instrument, her distinctive language speaks both to musical history and the present day. Bernofsky’s Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra was originally orchestrated for a classical-size orchestra, and a piano reduction was later commissioned by Mary L. Thornton. Although the piece was written in 1998, it wasn’t until 2001 that the work received its premiere. With the composer in attendance, Mary Thornton, trumpet, and Elaine Moss, piano, presented the world premiere of Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra on July 28, 2001, in Madison, Wisconsin. The orchestral premiere occurred on August 12, 2001, at Grieg Hall in Bergen, Norway, with Gary Petersen as soloist and Kjell Seim directing the Halsnøy Summer Music School Orchestra.
