Little Bear Ridge Road by Samuel D. Hunter on Broadway | Laurie Metcalf, Micah Stock & Joe Mantello

I was lucky enough to win the lottery for a preview performance of Little Bear Ridge Road — the Broadway debut of one of my favorite playwrights, Samuel D. Hunter (The Whale, A Bright New Boise, The Case for the Existence of God, Grangeville).

Directed by Joe Mantello and starring Laurie Metcalf and Micah Stock, this new play is set in rural Idaho during the pandemic, where an aunt and her gay nephew reunite after a loss.

Hunter’s plays always find beauty in the mundane and give a poetic voice to ordinary people — especially those living quietly on the margins.

It’s heartfelt, quiet, and deeply human — the kind of intimate, beautiful story that doesn’t come to Broadway often.
