The Golden Gate Chapter of the Vintage Volkswagen Club of America presents 38th Annual Spring Meet at History San Jose at Kelley Park in San Jose on Sunday.

Based in California’s Bay Area, the Golden Gate Chapter of the Vintage Volkswagen Club of America (GGCVVWCA) is one of the most active vintage-oriented VW clubs in the country. The group typically hosts two premier vintage events: the Kelley Park Show every year in April and Solvang’s VW Veteranentreffen every two years in September. Both meets are always on top of the list for vintage Volkswagen enthusiasts all over the world. The President of the GGCVWCA, Rick Spohn, is a true vintage VW gearhead, too, and has a strong influence on the Bay Area’s vintage scene.

Even if you don’t live in the Bay Area, the Kelley Park show remains a fantastic event to visit, as it takes place in conjunction with several pre-events held on Friday and Saturday, thus filling a great Volkswagen-oriented weekend.

On Friday, you don't want to miss Mark Merrill's Open House held in Mountain View, California. Mark Merrill is one of the biggest VW collectors in the USA, and this is the only day to have an opportunity to see more than 50 rare VWs in his private collection. Even if you couldn't make it on Saturday and Sunday, it's worth traveling there just to check out Mark's collection.

Kelley Park offers one of the best vintage VW show venues in my opinion. Once you step into the San Jose History Park at Kelley Park, you will instantly be isolated from the outside world – a true flashback in time. There are more than 30 100-year-old homes, business buildings, and landmarks that were relocated from all over California, all beautifully preserved in the park. These old structures give Kelley Park a real old town vibe. An operational trolley track contributes to the nostalgic feel. How could a vintage VW event not be successful in such a beautiful venue? The History Park is just a perfect location and has been the heart of the GGCVWCA show for over 38 years.
