3 Point Hitch antique V-Type Snowblower Performance Mod
These simple old V-Type Snowblowers, now very much considered antiques, were some of the first 3 Point Hitch Snowblowers in the country. Originally designed to be very simple yet rather effective in clearing driveways and farmyards. These blowers could be mounted on the tractor's Three-Point system and operated as push-back or pull-forward configuration at 540 PTO RPM. As this old blower originally had a low-speed bidirectional impeller, it was not optimized for the wet, heavy snow we frequently encounter during warmer winter weather.
I heavily modified the impeller to improve the throw and performance of the blower in wet heavy snow. The throw was increased from less than eight feet to almost twenty or thirty feet. The old blower now performs pretty well out in the field clearing a trail, even with temperatures above freezing and snow sticky today. The horsepower requirement has been reduced as the impeller efficiency is now increased substantially. I originally planned to build a drive system and transverse augers for the sides of the blower, but it seems to move a lot of snow pretty good as it is. The cold powdery snow will be a breeze, since the warm wet stuff goes through this well. A remote controlled rotational chute will replace the old side discharge and will also improve the impeller efficiency.
The low hour 1972 UTB U445-DT 4WD tractor is currently in the works of receiving a joystick controlled, four-way dozer blade system mounted on the front end, so the blower may see more limited use in the future. ...As limited spare time permits...
