海南鸡饭原乡有迹可循，巴生“偆園茶餐室 ”創辦人正是从海南岛文昌南来大马，一世纪后原鄉白切鸡煮法维持不变——肉质丰腴的土鸡是主角，有烹无调锁住鸡肉原味，鸡骨用来熬汤煮饭。手捏圆滚滚的鸡饭团寓意生活圆满，祭祀时则将米饭堆成碗里小山丘，祈求祖先與神明祝佑世代兴旺高升。一盘海南鸡饭是一个家族的历史，舌尖上的滋味有感恩也有思念。

As a migrant food, Hainanese chicken rice has been kept well and alive in Malaysia for more than a century. The original way of blanching without seasoning is still being practised, because it's the best way to enjoy the succulent free-range chicken. Over the years, the chicken-flavoured rice has been literally moulded and shaped into various roles of cultural and religious significance.
