Tips for deconstructing a reel for maintenance:
1. Try to obtain a map of reel schematics online for your particular model (you can work without one)
1. Have a clean empty work place with enough space to spread out your pieces.
2. Use a piece of fabric, like a towel, to work over to reduce the incidence of bouncing screws, micro-springs, etc...(remember to reapply oil to pieces that have lost their lubrication due to over-handling or touching fabric)
3. Have a bowl or saucer to hold small pieces
4. Have a variety of tools available like pliers, tweezers, flathead and phillips screwdrivers (MAGNETIC TIPS ARE A MUST!)
5. Take pictures or a video of your progress as a reference in case you forget where a washer goes, or how a certain piece fits.
6. Never put the deconstructed reel aside for days/weeks if you can't fix it--there is a high probability that you will forget placement, misplace pieces, and ultimately have a decommissioned reel.
