A former dean of the School of Architecture and Planning and head of the Program in Media Arts and Sciences, William Mitchell was a key player in integrating computers into architectural design. A native of Australia, Professor Mitchell was the architectural advisor to MIT president Charles Vest during MIT’s $750 million building expansion between 1998–2004, a role that inspired his 2007 book Imagining MIT: Designing a Campus for the 21st Century.
