Dr. Maja Martin for NC State Board of Dental Examiners

Meet Dr. Maja Martin, candidate for the North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners.
Dr. Martin is a general dentist with more than 25 years of experience owning and operating a group dental practice in Raleigh alongside her husband, Chris. Before attending UNC dental school, she played basketball at UNC-Chapel Hill, where she developed values that continue to guide her approach to dentistry: teamwork, discipline, consistency, and continuous improvement.
Over the past year, Dr. Martin has attended Board meetings to better understand the issues affecting dentists across North Carolina. She also submitted a rule change request that would allow dental hygienists to initiate nitrous oxide under a dentist’s supervision, a change approved by the Board at its April meeting and now moving through the rulemaking process.
Dr. Martin is running because she believes the Board is strengthened by a range of perspectives, including those shaped by patient care, team leadership, and real-world practice operations. Her priorities include clear and practical regulations, strengthening the dental workforce, protecting the integrity of the profession, and ensuring dentists continue to have a strong voice in decisions affecting dental care across North Carolina.
