The full title of the film is "Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes". It was directed in 1984 by Hugh Hudson, the Academy Award winning director of "Chariots of Fire" (1981). The film starred Christopher Lambert as Tarzan/John Clayton; Andie MacDowell as Jane Porter; Ian Holme as Capitaine Phillippe D'Arnot; and Ralph Richardson as the Sixth Earl of Greystoke. Glen Close's New England accent was expertly dubbined in instead of Andie McDowell's southern drawl, but she was never credited.
