KOSOVO: ERUPTION OF VIOLENCE

British soldiers under orders from K-FOR and the U-N removed the Albanian Flag from the municipal building in Podujevo on Friday, sparking an eruption of violence.

The U-N order that all municipal buildings fly the U-N flag alone has infuriated ethnic Albanians here.

In front of the municipal building, hundreds of ethnic Albanians gathered demanding the return of their flag.

British Brigadier Sherreff gave the order to some 200 K-FOR soldiers to push the crowds back.

Ethnic Albanians defied the order and violence ensued.

The municipal building was surrounded by K-FOR snipers.

Barricades were erected to stop the crowds moving forward.

The standoff continues.
