On the Wrist, from off the Cuff: Seiko Presage SRPD97 / SARY147 Japanese (Zen) Garden, Full Review

On this episode we review a modern 38mm Gem of a watch from Seiko's Presage line. The Japanese Garden inspired dial of the SRPD97 or SARY147 (depending on your region) paired to quite excellent scale and proportions make for a compelling option featuring true in-house virtues in an affordable package. It will easily draw quick and divisive comparisons to Seiko's own famed SARB035 of yesteryear but I think this timepiece is more of a modern SARB035 than a SARB035 re release would be. We saw the affect of a global pricing structure has done for the SARB017 Alpinist, so undoubtedly, the same type of inflation would happen to the SARB035 in modern form. My little SRPD97J1 is a Japanese Made unit that offers many of the same positive attributes as the SARB035 in a similarly lower price point, less akin to something like the beloved $1000 SARX055 and more closely comparable to the SARB established sweetspot.
