Telecom Training Part 1 | Huawei RRU Basics & Functions

Huawei RRU (Remote Radio Unit) is a critical component in modern telecom networks such as 4G LTE and 5G. It is installed near the antenna and is responsible for transmitting and receiving radio signals between the user equipment (mobile devices) and the network.

The RRU works together with the BBU (Baseband Unit) through high-speed interfaces like CPRI/eCPRI, enabling efficient data communication and reducing signal loss. By placing the RRU close to the antenna, operators achieve better coverage, improved signal quality, and higher network performance.

🔹 Key Functions of Huawei RRU:

RF signal transmission and reception
Signal amplification and filtering
Conversion of digital signals to RF signals
Support for multiple frequency bands and technologies (2G, 3G, 4G, 5G)

🔹 Main Components & Ports:

RF Ports (antenna connection)
CPRI/eCPRI ports (BBU connectivity)
AISG port (RET antenna control)
Power input

🔹 Common Huawei RRU Models:

RRU3908
RRU3929
RRU5508

🔹 Advantages of Huawei RRU:

Reduced feeder loss
Improved network coverage
Easy installation and maintenance
High efficiency for 4G & 5G deployments
