I have painted this realistic old men portrait painting on paper with acrylic colors. Acrylic paint usually dries fast. To overcome this challenge I am using a fine mist of water to keep the paint moist longer. I have elaborated my techniques of blending and shading using acrylic with water as the only medium. No retarder is used for this painting process.

I have started this painting with a thin layer of colors using Burnt Umber, Cadmium Yellow Medium and Crimson Lake to cover the entire face area to cover the sketching. Then I have applied many thin layers to achieve the desired effect of the skin tone. Most of the blending is done with dry brush technique with minimal water on the palette.
