The 17th edition of the India-Mongolia joint military exercise, Nomadic Elephant 2025, kicked off on May 31, 2025, at the Special Forces Training Centre in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The two-week exercise will continue until June 13, 2025.

The opening ceremony was graced by India’s Ambassador to Mongolia, Atul Malhari Gotsurve, and Mongolia’s Major General Lkhagvasuren Ganselem, who extended their best wishes to the troops and reaffirmed the commitment to deepening bilateral defence ties.

The exercise involves 45 personnel from the Indian Army, mainly from the Arunachal Scouts, and a similar-sized contingent from Mongolia’s 150 Special Forces unit. It focuses on platoon-level field training exercises in semi-urban and mountainous terrain, conducted under a United Nations peacekeeping mandate.
‘Nomadic Elephant’ is an annual bilateral exercise, held alternately in India and Mongolia, aimed at boosting interoperability, trust, and operational readiness between both armies.
