Low and high pruning in pine plantation forests
This video displays pruning carried out manually with pruning saws in commercial pine plantation stands. Pruning is the removal of branches from the stem so that knot-free timber is grown and supplied to the sawmill. Low pruning (2-3m) is mainly conducted for access, in addition high pruning (3 - 7m) results in knot free timber. For good pruning, the branches need to be cut flush with the stem of the tree.
