From asthmatic kid to Olympian | Sophie Becker | TEDxTUDublin

Growing up with asthma, struggling to keep up, and never being labeled a “natural talent,” I was far from the image of a future Olympian. In this talk, I share the reality behind elite performance and the struggles that go with it, from my diagnosis as a child, not getting my first Irish vest until I was 21 and why I kept going. My journey to becoming an Olympian was built quietly through resilience, consistency, and self-belief rather than early success or extraordinary talent. I hope to inspire people to explore what happens when you stop chasing instant results and start falling in love with the process.
