Central Montana Railroad: Shortline Survivor - GP9 and GP30 Territory

In this C. Vision YouTube exclusive, we visit the Central Montana Railroad in search of the railroad's classic former Great Northern GP9s and newly-delivered rebuilt GP30s from Western Rail Incorporated. Officially known as Central Montana Rail Incorporated, this little shortline has beaten the odds, overcoming many seemingly insurmountable obstacles that threatened both the company's survival and the rail line itself. Formed from trackage that Burlington Northern no longer wanted to operate, the CMR began operations in 1985 over a portion of the former Milwaukee Road Northern Montana Division between Spring Creek Junction and Geraldine. Later on, the CMR also took control of the former Great Northern line between Moccasin and Spring Creek Junction (Kingston), completing their system. In 2020, the railroad is mainly in the car storage business, and we will see Central Montana's fleet of four-axle EMDs moving these cars across the railroad. Distant mountains, classic grain elevators, and tall trestles define the route, allowing for endless photographic opportunities. The railroad is friendly, and employs some great people.
