I made these videos as a basic course on playing blues in open D. Open D is a fun and easy tuning to play and compose in. Once you learn the basics you can improvise endlessly in it. You don't have to play slide in open D. A lot of blues as well as folk artists have used this tuning to great effect.

I first started in this tuning 20 years ago. I really wish I would have had someone to show me some of the basics to begin with. These licks and chords in open D are just things I picked up here and there over a number of years. You can tune any guitar to open D. Have fun!
