Hyperpop Origins (Part 1): Definitions (?) & Aesthetic Influences

Hyperpop was not invented by Spotify in 2019. It started as an Internet music scene dating to the early 2010s, and evolved over the decade into what we now think of as hyperpop. Part 1 attempts to give context to that history. It explores where that term came from, and what it means (if you can even define it) to the people involved in developing that community. It also analyzes the wide spectrum of influences that make up the hyperpop sound.
