Financials Should Be The Best Performing Sector This Year: Santosh Kumar Singh, Motilal Oswal

Ajaya Sharma of ETNow spoke with Santosh Kumar Singh, Head of Research at Motilal Oswal AMC on the outlook on financials, insurance and the housing sector. On Financials, Mr Singh says that they saw the highest EPS upgrades last year but despite that stocks did not move as much. He beleives financials should not have fallen the way they did. Financials should report a good set of earnings as well. Valuations, he feels, are cheap even for some quality companies. Financials could be the best performing sector next year. Mr Singh also spoke about the Insurance sector where he says insurance is better placed than banking. Pricing in the insurance sector has firmed up, especially in the retail space, which should help aid profitability of these companies. Valuations, he believes, are dirt cheap for a lot of insurance companies. Housing sector witnessed a lot of collateral damage. The entire financial sector, including the housing sector, has fallen despite fundamentals improving and hence he sees a lot of opportunity in these sectors.
