Carp harvesting project feeds thousands
SANParks has partnered with Gift of the Givers, to help disadvantaged communities in the Garden Route and Little Karoo regions, using an invasive carp species.
An organisation called Island Lake in Wilderness has started harvesting fish which will be distributed to soup kitchens, old age homes, creches and individuals.
The initial project started with a partnership with Cape Nature in 2021 on the Groenvlei Lake and has proven to be very successful.
Since then, thousands of people have been fed.
