Sloan Science on Film Showcase: TWISTERS Q&A | TIFF 2025

Join us for a special screening of Lee Isaac Chung’s Twisters. Twisters follows two rival storm chasers and their teams as they use new technology to disrupt extreme weather formations. The film will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker and special guests, including tornado advisor Kevin Kelleher and severe storms expert Dr. Gregory Kopp. This lively discussion on the science of storms will be moderated by meteorologist Colette Kennedy and will explore the realism of the technology used in the film and what tools and methods scientists use to predict and analyze extreme weather like tornadoes.

The Sloan Science on Film Showcase spotlights two feature films with science and technology themes per year: one Official Selection title at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, and one year-round programming title at TIFF Lightbox. Our 2024 Festival selection was Nacho Vigalondo’s Daniela Forever. Past selections include Molly McGlynn’s Fitting In and Matt Johnson’s BlackBerry. With the support of The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, science-driven storytelling is brought to the forefront, making it accessible, inclusive, and deeply engaging for audiences.
