India Elections: Maharashtra state faces low voter turnout
The world's largest democratic exercise now enters its final stages, after India completed the fifth phase of its general election yesterday. Votes were cast across 49 constituencies in six states and two union territories. Among them was the western state of Maharashtra, of which Mumbai is the capital. It is a critical state in the election as Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeks a rare third term in power. But voter turnout in Mumbai stood at around 50 per cent at 11pm local time. Rebecca Bundhun reports.
