Balandin Type engine 3D model (revised)
This is revised version. Previous one has wrong crankshaft rotation modeling.
"Conrod Free" engine was invented 1935 by S.S.Balandin in Russia.It has unique double-crank system so the piston rod moves just up and down, rather than usual swing motion. It was thought this type of engine cam achieve lower friction, faster piston speed, thus higher power with lower fuel consumption. Later, two-sided double action piston is also tested. 4-cylinder prototypes were tested between 1937-1941, then suddenly the Communist Party began to strongly push the development. Dedicated Factory was established in Tushino (industry town by then, near Moscow), 12 or 24-cylinder 5000 - 10000 horsepower engine was designed. However it was already in 1945, advance of gas-turbine engine was so obvious that those monster engines are never completed. Balandin-Type engine development in Russia was ceased in 1948.
