Policing the world's largest democracy: enforcement to engagement. | Harssh A Poddar | TEDxGateway

Harssh talks about the role of the police as protectors of society and the extreme challenges that police officials face in order to discharge this duty. He highlights the crucial role of human engagement between the police and citizenry in preventing crime and terror and expresses the need for knowledge-based and community-centric law enforcement. Harssh represents the new-age model of a police officer. He is an Oxford-educated lawyer who left a corporate career in London to join the Indian Police Service (IPS). His revolutionary work changes the perception of citizens towards the police through large scale initiatives such as youth empowerment to combat terror, career counselling for adolescents, prevention of mob violence and transforming rural police stations into people-friendly institutions. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
