10 Dark Slavic Legends

Slavic cultures are spread across eastern Europe. They can be incredible diverse, seen in the difference between Poland and Kosovo. Yet we see some similar themes wherever Slavic peoples settle. One of such is folklore. Slavic legends are some of the creepiest and most unique legends ever told.

Baba Yaga is the most well known by far. It would be difficult to find a creature more terrifying than her. She has the likeness of an old woman, covered in warts and with a hump back. Her teeth are like metal fangs and her fingers like steel claws. Baba Yaga is driven only by her hunger for human flesh, specifically than of children. Watch this full video to find out more about her. You will also learn of Vodyanoi and Domovoi - two creatures that sound similar but are very different.

One is a house spirit who can be either kind and caring or evil and destructive. The other is Vodyanoy - a water spirit who takes joy not only in hurting humans but enslaving them in his underwater kingdom also.
