Riding behind WW 480 at the Glenbrook Vintage Railway (ft. DE 507) ~ 30/12/2022 (HD)

On the second-to-last day of 2022, we visited the Glenbrook Vintage Railway after their Christmas Lights event. This time WW 480 was in steam and hauling the regular passenger service.

We'll check out the workshop at Pukeoware, before heading back to Glenbrook and going for a ride to Waiuku and back. Besides the 4-6-4 steam locomotive, we'll also see the famous DBR 1254 (sometimes seen hauling mainline excursions) and DE 507. The DE is a vintage locomotive built by English Electric in 1951, which makes her 71 years old at the time of uploading.

As for the star of the show - WW 480 - she was built in 1910 by NZR's Hillside Workshops in Dunedin, originally in the WG class. At one point she ran on the Rimutaka Incline alongside the H class 'Fell' locomotives, eventually moving to the West Coast of the South Island. In 1969 she famously ran under her own power all the way up to Auckland (not counting the ferry crossing over Cook Strait), and is now preserved at the GVR alongside her slightly younger classmate; WW 644.
