Wat Plai Laem Koh Samui 2021 -Virtual walking tour| Walks in Thailand
Many have visited this temple complex, but they do not know anything about it, so today I have prepared an interesting story for you about the many-armed and fat woman)).
Wat Plai Laem Temple (Thai: วัด ปลาย แหลม) - Located near the Big Buddha Temple and Chong Mon Beach. Like the nearby Wat Phra Yai or "Big Buddha Temple", it is a modern, active Buddhist temple. It was built in 2004 by the famous artist Khun Jarith Fumdonming. The design of the temple incorporates elements of Chinese and Thai traditions. Its main Chinese-style statue is not a statue of Gautama Buddha. This is a form of the bodhisattva of compassion and mercy, Avalokiteshvara, who is called Gundi. This form of the deity is known in Chinese as "Guanyin with eighteen hands."
In addition to the main statue, there is also a white statue of Budai (“Fat Buddha”).
Budai (Chinese: 布袋; pinyin: Bùdài; Japanese: 布袋, romanized: Hotei) is a semi-historical Chinese monk who is revered in Chan Buddhism as the Buddha Maitreya. He was also introduced to the Japanese Buddhist pantheon. He is said to have lived in the Uyue Kingdom around the 10th century. His name literally means "cloth bag" and refers to the bag he usually portrays as the carrier when he wanders aimlessly. His cheerful personality, humorous nature, and eccentric lifestyle set him apart from most Buddhist masters or figures. He is almost always depicted as smiling or laughing, hence his Chinese nickname "Laughing Buddha." Since he is traditionally depicted as a fat, he is also called the “Fat Buddha,” especially in the Western world.
Budai has origins based on a cult of worship and local legends. He is traditionally depicted as a fat bald monk in a simple robe. He carries his few things in a cloth bag, poor but content. He entertained the adoring children who followed him in a captivating way and was known for happily stroking his big belly. His figure appears in Chinese culture as a symbol of contentment and abundance. Budai attracted the townspeople around him because he knew how to predict the fate of people and even weather conditions.
and smaller shrines dedicated to Ganesha, Vishnu, Shiva, and Sakka.
At the end of this walk, I came into the Thai school adjacent to the temple. She is typical of Thai schools, but looks extremely poor….
