Welcome to the largest city in Rhineland Westphalia. Cologne straddles the Rhine - 2/3 of the city on the left bank 1/3 on the right. The rail geography of Germany determines that Cologne is a crossroads: to the northwest the Belgian ports, to the north the Dutch ports and the Ruhr, to the east Berlin and the new members of the EU and to the south Baden Württemberg, Switzerland and Italy. Much of this traffic has to cross the Rhine – the rest runs around the city.

We visit the Hbf, the Hohenzollernbrücke, the Bbf near the Media Park and follow the railway around the city through Köln Süd to the Sudbrücke – the gateway to Gremberg Rbf. From Gremberg we head south through Troisdorf and Siegburg to Bonn-Beuel, Königswinter and Bad Honnef– the end station of the Bonn-Interurban tramway. South of Königswinter we are alongside the Rhine to Erpel (opposite Remagen) where we tell the story of the infamous Bridge that once spanned the river.
