DREAMT: Using telehealth to support Torres Strait Islander people with dementia

This short video was filmed on Moa Island in Torres Strait. The DREAMT team collaborated with people from the community and the video was co-written and directed by Samson Tamwoy, a local Torres Strait Islander Health Worker. The DREAMT project, funded by the Department of Social Services and implemented by The University of Queensland’s Centre for Online Health, is a telehealth service for dementia care for Indigenous peoples living in rural and remote Queensland.

Torres Strait Islander people, experience dementia at a rate three-to-five times higher than the non-Indigenous population in Australia.
Local Indigenous Health Workers, play a key role in telehealth-supported dementia care including screening, patient support, and delivery of health promotion targeting dementia prevention and community awareness. This film is an educational resource for health professional and people with dementia and their families.
