"Anjunadeep Origins" - James Grant

Once destined to become a lawyer, James Grant has spent the last two-decades devoted to his passion for electronic music, specifically in the form of the eclectic deep-house label Anjunadeep.

Uncovering and signing new talent as Artist & Repertoire (A&R) of the label, James balances a family, a busy day-job managing Above & Beyond and their label Anjunabeats; as well as DJing Anjunadeep's main events throughout the year in Miami, New York, Seattle and a summer series of shows in London.

With a strong passion for sport and music, James found himself at the end of 4 years of law school knowing the path wasn't for him. He had always shared a passion for music with his younger brother Jono, who's music production had lead Jono to form Above & Beyond with friends Paavo Siljamäki and Tony McGuinness.

With strong momentum after a remix for Madonna, James came on board to help them grow Anjunabeats and manage A&B.

As the identity of Anjunabeats began to solidify, James felt there was a growing number of tracks that were being overlooked because they didn't fit the upbeat and energetic vibe of Anjunabeats.

In early 2009, the boys put together the first compilation album for the new label, Anjunadeep 01. Since then the series has evolved to slower bpms and an aim to tell a story by finding the right tracks and placement.

A fan of his mixes, James began collaborating with Jody Wisternoff and has found a level of chemistry mixing the albums and working on tracks that has shaped the path of the Anjunadeep Label.

James says that whether it's an Above & Beyond event, Anjunabeats or Anjunadeep, a hallmark of the music is that idea of inclusivity of inviting everyone and enjoying the music through a shared experience.
