Safety issues in labour analgesia. Alexandra Schyns van den Berg (Netherland)
Dr Alexandra M.J.V. Schyns-van den Berg is an obstetric anaesthesiologist with over 30 years of clinical and academic experience.
In 2022, she commenced her PhD trajectory at Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC) under the supervision of Professor Albert Dahan, successfully defending her thesis “Painless childbirth? Epidural and spinal techniques in obstetric anaesthesia” on December 2, 2025. Her doctoral research encompasses electrohysterography, chronic post-caesarean pain, post-spinal hypotension, and postdural puncture headache (PDPH), building on contributions to the international EPiMAP cohort study (1001 women, 24 countries). She completed the Harvard Medical School Global Clinical Scholar Research Training Programme (2016–2017). She is an active member of multiple international research networks (EPiMAP, MaCriCare, PreMaCare, EPITEMP). She has served as a steering committee member, course organiser, textbook co-editor, and contributor to national guidelines.
