The Dark Side of Atlanta’s Industry: Jessica J on Modeling, Music Videos & Toxic Love”

Inspired by iconic pop culture moments, fashion television, and the golden era of music videos, Jessica J’s journey into entertainment began long before the cameras, club appearances, and video shoots. Growing up in Grand Rapids, she became heavily influenced by shows like America’s Next Top Model and quickly developed a passion for modeling, beauty, fashion, and the entertainment industry as a whole.
What initially started as local modeling opportunities soon began gaining attention throughout her hometown. As her name continued circulating and opportunities became more frequent, Jessica realized she had ambitions far beyond the environment she grew up in. Feeling limited creatively and professionally, she made the life-changing decision to relocate to Atlanta — a city widely known for its influence on music, nightlife, fashion, and entertainment culture.
Once arriving in Atlanta, Jessica immersed herself into the industry headfirst. From modeling gigs and nightlife appearances to club hostings and music video work, she steadily built relationships and expanded her visibility throughout the city. Over time, she appeared in videos and worked around artists such as K Camp, YFN Lucci, and Rich Homie Quan during a major era in Atlanta’s music scene.
But as glamorous as the lifestyle appeared publicly, Jessica explains that there was another side to the industry that many people never see. Behind the scenes came difficult friendships, complicated business situations, relationship struggles, and the mental pressure that often comes with constantly trying to survive and maintain relevance in entertainment.
Eventually, those experiences led her to take a step back from the spotlight entirely. During that time away from entertainment, Jessica redirected her energy into real estate and property management — focusing on creating structure, stability, and personal growth outside of nightlife and social media culture.
Now, after years of growth and reflection, Jessica J is returning to the public eye with a completely different mindset and purpose. Rather than simply chasing attention, she hopes to use her platform and story to advocate for women entering the entertainment industry, helping others avoid some of the mistakes and hardships she experienced firsthand.
In this episode of TLE, Jessica J opens up about her beginnings in Michigan, relocating to Atlanta, working throughout the music and nightlife scene, the realities behind video vixen culture, taking a break from the industry, transitioning into real estate, and why she now feels called to share her story publicly.
Where culture meets conversation. 🎙️
