ANTALYA TURKEY: Top 10 UNMISSABLE things to see (MUST Watch!!!)
Today I share with you the top 10 things that you must see in Antalya Turkey. This is the best video you will ever see on Antalya Turkey as I show the top must-visit attractions of this city.
Hadrian's Gate can be found in Antalya city, and was made during the Roman Empire to welcome Emperor Hadrian to the city.
The heart of the Old Town is known as Kaleici and you can spend hours here wandering the narrow cobblestoned streets. It is easy to find Kaleici as the starting point is the Saat Kulesi or clock tower. There are many famous tourist sights to visit in the old town including the Seljuk era Yivliminare Cami, the Ethnography Museum and the Dervish Lodge museum. There are also many Ottoman-era houses in Kaleici which have been converted into hotels, restaurants and souvenir shops. Walk down to the base of Kaleici and you will find yourself in the ancient Roman harbour.
Konyaalti beach is located to the west of Antalya and is considered to be the most popular beach in the city. The views surrounding the beach are very enchanting with the majestic Taurus Mountains in the background.
The Antalya Archeology Museum is one of the largest museums in Turkey and exhibits thousands of ancient artefacts that were discovered in this region. The museum is easily accessible by taking the Nostalgic tram to the Müze stop in Konyaalti. Here you can find prehistoric objects, ancient coins, Roman Imperial statues and a mosaics hall. I found the marble statues of emperors and empresses discovered in the ancient city of Perge the most fascinating.
The Roman Harbour, also known as the Marina, is probably the most iconic image of Antalya. Here you can find many boat tour operators, as well as restaurants and cafes.
The Yivli Minaret Mosque, which is also known as the Aladdin Mosque or Grand Mosque was built in 1230 during the reign of Seljuk Sultan Aladdin Kaykubad I. The mosque’s fluted minaret was decorated with blue tiles and is considered to be a symbol of the city.
The Antalya Nostalgic trams run from Lara beach in the east, to Kale Kapisi (the clock tower) in the centre and Konyaalti beach to the west of the city. You can use the Antalya Kart to travel inexpensively across the city.
Perge is 18km to the east of Antalya, and is easily accessible by taking the tram to Aksu, and then a short taxi ride to the city. It is one of the most well preserved ancient cities in Anatolia. Research in the areas shows that Perge has a prehistoric past that possibly dates back to the 5th millennium BC, and the city experienced glorious days during different periods. During Alexander the Great’s capture of the region in 333BC, the people of Perge well Alexander’s forces without any resistance. The last glorious era for the city was in the 5th and 5th century AD during the Roman Empire. Excavations have been conducted since 1946 and many of the impressive statues of emperors that were discovered can be found in the Antalya Archeology Museum.
Dervish Lodge Museum - The Mevlevi Lodge Building located in Kaleiçi, is one of the most popular touristic places of Antalya and belongs to the Seljuk period. Although it does not have an inscription, it is thought to have been built by Sultan Kayqubad I in 1255 and started to be used as a Mevelvi Lodge since the 16th century. The Museum, consists of the Mevlevi Lodge, Bath, and the tombs of Mehmet Bey and Nigar Hatun. It hosted activities like classes about Islamic Philosophy, reading activities about Mesnevi and Divan, seminars, sufi music concerts and whirling ceremonies. Nigar Hatun lying in one of the tombs in the complex was the mother of Sultan Korkut, the son of Beyazid II. The other tomb dated 1377 was built by Mehmet Bey, who was nicknamed ‘Chain Breaker’ because he managed to conquer Antalya by breaking the port chains. The Ney is wind instrument played by Sufi's during the sema and in the video you can view this beautifully being played by @RoyalOttomanSociety
The Lower Duden Falls is probably the most popular tourist attraction in the city. This breathtaking waterfall is located in Duden Park, in the Lara district of Antalya. There are two waterfalls with the same name, the Lower and Upper Duden falls, and they both pour from the Duden River, which is one of the largest rivers in the region.
