What is the Silent Generation?

Who is the Silent Generation? This is the generation that comes after the Greatest/G.I. Generation and before the Baby Boomers. Learn about the origin of the name Silent Generation, why it (silence) might be true for some, some other characteristics of the Silent Generation, Silent Generation birth years events they experienced, different aspects of their early life including new technology and music at the time and more.
Now, I want to note that some of the events I discuss seem more geared to one end of the generation or the other. Some major events surrounding this time seem more fitting for the cusp time with the G.I.s/Greatests and the Boomers. The time period which probably is most relevant to the generation as a whole is the 1950s when the youngest members of the Silent Generation would have been 5-15 and the oldest would have been in their 20s to 30s. In terms of conflict, the Korean War (and of course, Cold War as a whole), along with the space race and Civil Rights Movement were relevant. After the beginning, I moreso tried to talk about the things they experienced rather than what specifically might have defined them as the generation doesn’t appear to be centered around a specific event as a whole though if we were to choose one, it might be their experience of being children of the Great Depression and WWII or the beginning of the Cold War.
I think a good summary of silents is they kept their heads down and played by the rules and it worked out for many of them. While some did well, they didn’t tend to live very extravagant lives. Also, some Silents were more involved in some big changes than you would think!
