"Bondi," originally "Boondi" is an Aboriginal word which has the same meaning as the word "surf" in English. It describes the meaning as "noise made by sea waves breaking on the beach," which is essentially the definition of "surf" in contemporary American English. The Australian Museum records that Bondi means place where a fight using boondi sticks (nullas nullas or fighting sticks) took place.
