The Real World History and Culture Behind Encanto

Encanto is Disney's 60th animated feature and follows up several other films that are inspired to real world history and culture. Picking up after the One Thousand Day War in Colombia, Mirabel and her family have magical gifts inspired by the art and literary movement of the 20th century. Pulling from the magic realism movement of the 20th century as well as the story "100 years of solitude" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Encanto feels fresh and original tale based in South America, while still feeling like a simple story everyone worldwide can understand.
