Dam Spillway Overflow & Water Discharge

Because of all the rain in the past few weeks, the Oker Dam in the Harz region overflowed on December 26, 2023. The spillway consists of 8 siphon-like tubes. Due to the weight of the falling water, the output capacity is increased significantly by exploiting the suction effect. With the ventilation valves closed (1:39) 120 m³/s are achieved. The bottom outlet has a maximum output capacity of 16 m³/s.

The dam last overflowed in 1981 and 1994.
