Accentuating the Positive: Aubrey McLean’s Story (1920 – 2016)
Aubrey McLean put his university studies on hold to enlist with the Royal Canadian Engineers. One month before the war ended, Aubrey stepped on a landmine in Holland and lost his leg. Thankfully, that was not the end of his story. He accepted his amputation and encouraged other amputees, especially children, to accentuate the positive. Through The War Amps, Aubrey and his fellow war amputees helped build a lasting legacy for child amputees in Canada. The Association’s tradition of amputees helping amputees will continue through the CHAMP Program, thanks to the public’s support of The War Amps Key Tag Service.
