Sonate Sauvage - George Antheil

Sonate Sauvage represents the height of the mechanistic futurist period of George Antheil's work in Paris in the early 1920s. This, along with other original compositions for solo piano, in a concert performed opening for the Ballets suédois on October 4th, 1923 caused a full-scale riot, the likes of which had not been seen since the premiere of Le Sacre du Printemps (Stravinsky). The best recording of this underplayed and unpublished masterwork is by far that of Guy Livingston, who treats the piece here with the thoughtfulness and consideration deserving of a truly genius composer like George Antheil; such mindfulness is so often lacking in recordings of 20th century music, in general.
