The most scenic train in Serbia || Sargan 8 || What to do during lockdown in Serbia || Part 2/3

Close to Drvengrad there's a very old train station where you can get on a very old train and basically go nowhere in particular but just ride the train for fun and history. This is the second part of the holiday we took in Western Serbia.

Šarganska Osmica is a historical railroad that had the first train travel it in 1925. This was an important railroad as it connected the Adriatic sea and Belgrade.

It received its name because of it's unique 8 shaped tracks. The reason the tracks were shaped like number 8 is to accommodate the steep mountain Šargan and the train's ascent descent to it. This train stopped running in 1974.

Today this railroad is used for tourist purposes. When you get on the Šarganska Osmica train you will enjoy 2,5 hours long ride with a few stops on some of the old train stations Šargan Vitasi, Jatare, and Morka Gora. You also get to see Emir Kusturica's movie set on the made-up station Golubići.

The most impressive thing you can see are: beautiful nature, 22 tunnels, 5 bridges and you'll ascend 300 m up to the mountain and all of this on a 15 km long ride.
