Remembering - SP 1992 Shasta Division

Remembering the Southern Pacific as it was in 1992. We follow the trains between Cantara Loop and Dunsmuir.
This was a time when the SP had helper units stationed at Dunsmuir that helped trains make the climb out of the Sacramento Canyon. They would assist from Dunsmuir to Black Butte or as far as the Sumit at Grass Lake, California.
Dunsmuir was a major division point in the steam days. They had a very large roundhouse and backstop for overhauling engines, not including the Cabforwards.
There was a 125’ turntable to turn the largest engines the SP had. The railroad had as many as 1500 men working out Dunsmuir back in the hay day of steam.
