Diagnosed with a germ cell tumor that left him wheelchair-bound, Keannu's one true wish to be a football player again was granted with the help of our partner, emergeStudios, a Virtual Reality company that helped make the impossible, possible for Keannu.

Keannu was the star quarterback of his high school team, with a personality that would light up a room. His teammates called him their general, and they were his soldiers – they became a family. But in an instant, everything in Keannu’s life changed.

One game, Keannu suddenly couldn’t see out of his left eye. He threw his final touchdown that day, but he didn’t even see it.

Days later, doctors found a tumor, which had severe repercussions – Keannu fell into a coma for several weeks, and is now confined to a wheelchair, suffering short-term memory loss and difficulty speaking.

Keannu considered several options for his wish, but his ultimate dream only came down to one thing – to play football with his friends again.

His wish seemed impossible, but we said yes.

Thanks to the work of emergeStudios and an entire community that came together around Keannu, his wish was made possible. He took the field one last time, and experienced the life he tragically lost.

Keannu, like so many of our wish kids, face a constant uphill battle; but they fight every single day. It is only because of supporters like you that wish kids can experience simple things they thought they’d lost: comfort, hope, strength, wonder… the list goes on.
