Why Are Bubbles Forming in Salt Water? 😱
Hello guys, in today’s video I demonstrated a simple Electrolysis of Salt Water experiment using a glass of water, salt, pencils, and a 9V battery ⚡🧪
As soon as the battery is connected, tiny bubbles start forming around the pencil tips! But why does this happen? 🤯
🔬 What’s the science behind it?
When salt (NaCl) is dissolved in water, it breaks into ions that help conduct electricity.
👉 The pencil graphite acts as electrodes
👉 The 9V battery provides electric current
👉 Electricity passes through the salt water solution
This process is called electrolysis.
During electrolysis:
Water molecules split into gases
Tiny bubbles form at the electrodes
Hydrogen gas forms at one side and oxygen gas forms at the other side
🧠 Simple explanation:
“Electricity breaks water into gases, creating bubbles during electrolysis.”
⚡ Why is salt added?
Pure water is a poor conductor of electricity.
👉 Salt increases conductivity
👉 This allows electric current to flow more easily through the water
This experiment demonstrates:
Electrolysis
Electrical conductivity
Chemical decomposition
Basic chemistry and physics concepts
⚠️ Safety Note: Perform electrical experiments carefully and avoid touching exposed wires while the battery is connected.
