In this TEDtalk, Melissa de Raat questions the controllability of “talent”. The denominator of talent development and exploitation of talent is hard work, however in the moments of truth in business as well as in sports it can be hard to shine in the right moments. Controlling or pushing your talent during important events such as final games or pitches can work counterproductive. But what should you do to exploit your talent to the fullest when it matters most? It is a question that a lot of athletes and business people struggle with. She uses her own experiences and examples from Michael Jordan to Carice van Houten to get to her point: your talent cannot and should not be controlled. In those moments of truth you should let go, trust and adjust. Only then you will shine as bright as you possibly can. Melissa de Raat wants to motivate people and provide tools to achieve their lifestyle goals.
To make that happen, she wrote the E-book "Walking on Sunshine - All Mentally". "It can help make your New Year's resolutions work this year," she says. "Changing lifestyle is all about breaking habits," said Melissa, speaking from her own experience. The former top athlete, she played premier league basketball at Amsterdam and Den Helder, but fell into a deep hole when she retired from professional basketball in 2016.
