When we were in Chiang Mai Thailand a few years ago we had the opportunity to hang out with some amazing elephants. We visited an elephant sanctuary that rescues abused elephants. We were educated on the treatment of these beautiful babies, it was mind blowing and HORRENDOUS! It is a popular thing to ride elephants when you go to Thailand and I'm not going to lie we thought it looked pretty awesome as well. However once you find out what it takes to ride an elephant or to get them to do the tricks you see on the side of the road you'll definitely change your mind. It is absolute torture that these gentle giants have to go through.
We had the pleasure of walking around the sanctuary with them and heard the stories of each one, it's easy to fall in love.
We wanted to bring awareness with this video so you can be well informed, it's easy to want to ride elephants- what an experience right? but when you see the reality you quickly change your mind!
Traveling the world with kids is amazing but you also witness the dark side of things. Embracing the beauty but also acknowledging changes need to made for humanity for all.
